The Grade 5 Music Theory Intensive Course is designed for children preparing to take the ABRSM Grade 5 Music Theory exam. Generally, participants should have some basic knowledge of music theory and be at around Grade 3 level on their instrument.
Typically, students aged 9 or 10 and above are suitable for the course. However, there is no strict age requirement. When registering, parents should consider whether their child can focus for the one-hour class and complete homework assignments. Basic knowledge of music theory is also helpful.
The course consists of 16 lessons, including new material, homework reviews, and a final comprehensive revision. Content that usually takes a year or longer is condensed into an intensive format, making the course highly challenging. Therefore, parents must ensure children attend all classes on time (or watch the video replay if a class is missed) and complete their homework. Parents are encouraged to accompany their children during lessons to help them understand and review the material.
The course is conducted online via Zoom.
All materials will be provided. There is no need to purchase additional resources.
All lessons will have video replays. Please note that these are not permanent; the system will delete the replays after several weeks. Students who miss a class should watch the replay promptly.
The course is taught by Jennifer Hazel, a graduate of the Royal College of Music. She has extensive experience in teaching, music production, and directing musical performances. This course has been running for five years and has helped hundreds of students pass their exams, including many who achieved outstanding results.
We do not require students to report their exam results to us, so we do not have specific data. Passing the exam depends primarily on the student’s focus during class and the effort they put into review and homework. While we cannot guarantee all students will pass, the majority of students pass the exam on their first attempt after completing the course.
The course is taught in English.
